I am a Sussex based artist. I mainly work in oils but occasionally use a variety of mixed media to gain the effects I am striving for.

The essence of my work is to try to capture the atmosphere generated by the elements in conjunction with the earthly canvas, that responds to its fluctuating movements.

My earlier Landscape and Seascape work have been strongly influenced by the Impressionists, specifically Claude Monet and Van Gogh for their use of light and instinctual energy. More recently however I have become very drawn to the work of David Bomberg who introduced the idea of bringing weight and volume into light and space in what has become the English manner.

Inspiration comes from time spent sketching out in the landscape, capturing its uniqueness and energy, then building and abstracting with layers of colour over the preliminary sketches. I translate the immediate image, keeping its initial quality and essence but using my own vision and experience to make something more personal.

My training and work as a psychotherapist and art therapist has helped me to understand the way the psyche responds emotionally to colour and form.

I frequently exhibit my work in the southeast and take part annually in the South East Open Studios.

My work is currently held in private collections in the UK and abroad.
